31 Days of Clean foods: Day 4

Always learning.
I woke up at 5, made it to the gym by 6 (barely). I decided to just get a shake at the gym because I didn’t have time to make breakfast because um, well, I was surfing instagram and Pinterest in bed until I realized it was 5:40 and I had to get up for the gym!! When I got there I asked for just protein powder water and ice – none of that sugar filled or sugar free syrup. Then I ran into the studio room to take BodyPump. I started drinking my shake about 10 minutes into class and the entire class I felt starving and unwell – not good – but it could be a combo of taking my vitamins and supplements with a slam instead of a spark? Not sure since that is the only other thing I did differently. Maybe a combo of both? Well, for future reference im not going to fail to eat on a pump morning!
After my workout I went home, taking another day off because I have to work extra long tomorrow. For my post workout meal I had 1 slice of sprouted Ezekiel bread, 2 large brown eggs with about 1/2-2/3 cup (eyeballed) of egg whites, and 1cup raspberries. I chose the raspberries because they are a lower glycemic fruit (slower digested if you believe in the GI system – which all seem to be different but raspberries also have a lot of other healthy properties and well, they are yummy) I chose Ezekiel bread because it’s not very high in carbs and i really didn’t feel like having cream of rice which is usually my staple! So although Ezekiel bread isn’t exactly “clean” (depending on your definition) it’s as close to clean and remember, this is a learning experience – learning what foods feel good and fuel my body!
At around 11am my husband decided he wanted to go to the gym to hit an isolated shoulders exercise. We were there til just after 1pm. I was starving, so I stopped I at GNC before we left and got a Quest banana nut bar. At 2:30pm I had 2 eggs, 1/2 steamables package of edemame, 1 2oz piece of steak, 100g sweet potato. I was not feeling full so at 3pm I had 1/4cup almonds.
At 4:40 got bit by the hunger bug – annoyed because I really want to succeed but sometimes it’s so hard to do what you know you should do – but I’m not going to give up so easily – nope, I will not go the easy route and have a “cheat” and then explain myself with some long winded excuse. If you want to be a champion, you must eat like one, train like one, work hard like one… If you want to be an athlete you can’t make excuses. I’ve been making excuses for way too long… It’s time to stop making excuses and suck it up buttercup!! (Sorry that was more or less a rant to myself to get through the hunger pangs that aren’t real anyway since I just ate!)
So I stayed away from food, we spent probably an hour and a half trying to figure out what to eat for dinner, flip flopping between cooking, going to the salad bar at whole foods, and Chinese food, I finally opted for the option I knew was the best – and I made baked chicken with salsa, green beans, and jasmine rice. I upped it to a whole cup of rice tonight because I trained twice today and well, I was actually really hungry after all the back and forth but I am happy with the choice to cook – in 20 minutes we had a full dinner! For “dessert” I made protein muffins – here’s what I did: 1/2 cup muscleegg chocolate flavored egg whites, 1 cup organic rolled oats, and 1 scoop of Metabolic Nutrition protizyme peanut butter cookie protein. Mix it all together until you get a paste and then pop it in the oven for 10-15 minutes! It made and ate 4 muffins over the remainder of the day – they were dry and chewy, I will have to perfect this recipe!
Maybe I should make a tab for recipes…. Hmmmmm 🙂
So, I learned today that I need to make sure to eat on a Body Pump day, and that I need to plan just a little bit more but still keep it uncomplicated!
